Plastic Surgery In Serbia

After liposuction or significant weight loss, a thigh lift is necessary to tighten and remove excess skin. This technique has made great progress in recent years with effective and long-lasting results.

Thigh lift In Serbia

A thigh lift is surgery on the inner thighs. Indeed, this part of the body is often prone to sagging skin. Lifting is possible in case of excess skin. This is then tightened to treat the crenelated aspect of the thigh and the excess skin is removed.

To treat the folds and irregularities responsible for the vague effect on the thigh, the facelift remains a lasting solution. The entire thigh is firmed and thus regains a smooth appearance.

Indications: why and when to do a thigh lift?

After liposuction of the thighs, if the excess skin is too great, the natural retraction of the skin will be insufficient. A facelift can then be performed. These two procedures are often combined, especially if the thigh has both excess fat and loose skin. Liposuction preserves the lymphatics and vessels while ensuring a better result.

After a certain age, skin aging is very visible on the inner thighs. In addition to being unsightly, the excess skin between the thighs is also an embarrassment due to friction. It may then be difficult for the patient to walk. In this case, the thigh lift can correct the sagging skin.

Changes in weight often lead to sagging skin in the thigh area. After pregnancy or obesity surgery, it is not uncommon to have a thigh lift. Be careful, however, because being overweight remains one of the contraindications of this surgery. The purpose of the intervention is in no way to lose weight, but to reshape the silhouette.

This technique has made great progress in recent years with effective and long-lasting results, whether in patients who have had significant weight loss or in older women with moderate relaxation of the inner thighs. The length of the scar adapts to the excess skin.

How is the thigh lift performed?

Before the thigh lift operation

The first consultation with the surgeon consists of examining the thighs to assess the amount of skin to be removed as well as the length of the scar envisaged (if the excess skin is moderate and in the direction of the height, the scar will be horizontal in the fold groin; if the excess skin is greater and also widthwise, an incision along the inner side will be necessary).

During this examination, the quality of the skin and muscle tone are also checked. The risks and complications (infection, hematoma, etc.) will also be exposed.

A preoperative assessment by blood test is then essential as well as a visit to the anesthetist one month to 48 hours before the operation. You can then be operated on.

Reimbursement by social security is sometimes possible after a request for prior agreement. In this case, a pre-printed form will be given to you, to be sent to your primary health insurance fund by registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt. Within about 15 days, you will be summoned by the social security medical adviser who will validate or not the agreement. A response will then be given by mail to the surgeon. Without support, you will have a reflection period of 15 days after receipt of the estimate for the operation.

The usual recommendations before a thigh lift operation are to stop smoking at least 6 weeks before the procedure, arrive on an empty stomach on the day of the operation, and not take aspirin for 10 to 15 days. before the intervention.

During the thigh lift operation

Before the actual facelift, liposuction is usually performed to suck out excess fat. This results in a loosening of the skin allowing as much skin to be removed as possible. Only excess skin that has not retracted undergoes removal.

The operation is performed under general anesthesia. Depending on the amount of skin to be removed, 2 procedures are possible:

For moderate excess skin in the upper third of the thigh, incisions will be made in the crease of the thigh. In this case, the scar will extend from the rear gluteal crease to the front groin. This intervention must not lead to modification of the vulva by resection and excessive tension of the skin at this level. The scar will be perfectly concealed in the underwear.

For a significant excess of skin, the incision will be vertical along the thigh from the inguinal fold to the level of the knee. This lengthening of the incision is necessary to avoid a narrow thigh with large knees. The T-scar is characteristic of this technique.

Note that the skin is not peeled off, which preserves the lymphatics and vessels and therefore reduces the risk of complications such as bleeding. After the appropriate incisions, the excess skin is removed and then the skin is stretched to redrape the thigh. The area is then sutured and bandaged.

After the thigh lift operation

The duration of hospitalization is on average 3 to 4 days. After a passage in the recovery room, you will then go back to your room for the start of convalescence. The next day, the bandage is removed and replaced by a compression panty which must be worn every day for a month.

In some cases, compression stockings are also prescribed for 2 weeks to avoid the risk of embolism. The sutures are absorbable.

A convalescence period of 2 to 4 weeks is necessary depending on the importance of the intervention. In case of support, you will be given a work stoppage to claim with your employer.

This surgical intervention imposes a strong tension on the tissues at the root of the thigh. During the first 15 days, the spread movements of the thighs are prohibited. This type of movement will be carried out gradually over the next 15 days. You can therefore resume normal activity one month after the operation. For sport, you will have to wait for perfect healing, after a month or two.

Edema and bruises disappear after about 20 days. Pain or tightness is treated with adequate analgesics. Once at home, the various treatments continue. Scar care should be performed by a nurse once a day.

You can shower the day after the operation. It is advisable not to stay too much in bed during this period. Subcutaneous injections of anticoagulants will be prescribed for a period of 2 weeks.

Follow-up visits are scheduled for one week, one month, and then every 3 months for a year to monitor the progress of healing. In the 6 months following a thigh lift, it is advisable to protect the operated skin from the sun to allow proper healing.

The results of a thigh lift

The result of a thigh lift is visible the day after the intervention and final after 3 to 5 months. Complete healing is monitored for up to 12 months during follow-up visits. Follow-up is useful for reporting possible imperfections (scars that are too visible, asymmetries, etc.). We can then consider alterations later.

The duration of a thigh lift

The intervention lasts 2 to 3 hours depending on its importance.

The price of a thigh lift

When there is no social security coverage, the price of a thigh lift varies between 4,500 and 12,000 euros including tax.

In the event of coverage, there is a fee overrun which represents the fraction not covered by social security, the amount of which varies between 3,000 and 8,000 euros. Note that this overrun may be covered by your health insurance depending on the contract you have taken out. These prices represent an average range and may vary depending on the size and complexity of the intervention.

Patients who can benefit from this treatment are those with sequelae of massive weight loss (30 to 40 kg), in particular after obesity surgery (gastric banding or gastric bypass).

In other cases, no reimbursement is possible and the intervention, therefore, remains entirely the responsibility of the patient.
